Hotel development is strong in San Antonio, with 20 new hotels in the last few years, and 18 new hotels in the pipeline citywide.
Notable Hotel Openings in 2024
Opened in 2024, the InterContinental is the newest hotel on the San Antonio River Walk. Perfect for larger company retreats and conventions, the hotel offers 11 meeting rooms, 390 guest rooms, and a reception hall capacity of up to 900. Guests will enjoy amenities including an on-site restaurant, rooftop bar and pool, and effortless access to San Antonio’s famous River Walk, lined with the city’s top restaurants, bars, shopping, and attractions.
Also opened in 2024, the Kimpton Santo Hotel blends San Antonio’s old-world charm with modern elegance. Situated between Downtown and Southtown, it provides easy access to two of the city’s most lively neighborhoods and the convention center. The hotel offers 11 meeting rooms, 347 guest rooms, and a reception hall capacity of up to 500. Guest amenities include an on-site steak restaurant, speakeasy-style bar, rooftop pool, and wellness amenities like in-room yoga mats and bicycles.
The Plaza Hotel & Spa was another 2024 addition to the Downtown landscape. The garden-inspired property feels peaceful while being conveniently perched between the bustling Downtown and Southtown neighborhoods. It offers 10 event rooms, 6 breakout rooms, over 250 guest rooms, and a reception hall with a capacity of 792. The hotel also offers an on-site restaurant and expansive patio bar, but the spa is what sets this location apart from the rest. The luxurious amenities and relaxing feel of the Plaza make it the perfect destination for corporate retreats.
The historic 312-room Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk has begun a $50 million renovation to guest rooms and its 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
San Antonio eagerly awaits the 200-room Monarch San Antonio, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton portfolio, coming to the downtown area next year, and will bring 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
Venues & Attractions:
Civic Park opened in March of 2025. It is a part of the Hemisfair District redevelopment, home of the 1968 World’s Fair, and adjacent to the Henry B. González Convention Center. It includes five acres of public parkland, a five-pooled water feature, and a great lawn area that can accommodate large events up to 15,000.
San Antonio became home to the largest culinary market in the Southwest in the spring of 2024 with the arrival of Pullman Market. The new 40,000 square foot Pullman Market at Pearl offers several dining options as well as several unique team building classes such as Floral Arranging, Wine or Beer Tasting in the Cave, Mozzarella Making, and Ceviche Making.
Nestled in the historic Tobin Hill area in San Antonio, the Creamery District offers a vibrant blend of culinary and social experiences. It is an adaptive reuse location built in 1933. The Creamery was home to a Borden's facility, operating as the largest distributor of fluid milk in the United States at the time. Now, The Creamery is a mixed-use complex featuring diverse dining options, from a European-style cafe called Creme to Lunatic, a rooftop lounge with stunning views.
San Antonio International Airport Expansion
One of the most exciting things happening in San Antonio is the expansion of the San Antonio International Airport. The $2.5 billion plan for expansion includes building a new terminal, which is expected to be completed in 2028. This will greatly increase the number of gates and flights. In addition, short-term improvements to SAT include adding three additional gates to the existing terminal facility, expanding the existing baggage claim system, and creating new and enhanced airport concessions.
